Unabridged Adventures is a small online Australian based second-hand book store.
Our Values are simple -
1. We love real books
There is nothing like holding a physical book and curling up with it. The beautiful covers, bindings and illustrations, the feel of the paper as you turn the page, that bookey smell. What's not to love?
2. We value diversity
One of our most underpinning philosophies is around preserving diversity in literature (and everywhere else). We do not believe in censorship or banned books. One of the good things about vintage books is that they give us an insight into the societal norms and thinking of the author, which we can reflect and learn upon. Just because it is written, doesn't make it right, but there is nothing wrong with provoking thought!
We search for and source weird, quirky and unusual titles from wherever we can. Yes, we will sell contemporary titles and paperbacks because they are part of the diversity of the literary world - but they are not our focus. Remember the wider range of books, the wider range of choice for adventures!
3. We support education at any age
We strongly believe that literacy, being widely read and education are key aspects of the development of critical and lateral thinking skills, and reflective practice. We also believe it is never too late to further develop your reading and literacy skills. We try and stock books to suit every age group.
4. We believe in community
We believe in embracing all members of the community, and the experience and the diversity people bring to others. With experience and diversity comes resilience and strength. Here at U.A. we want to encourage and nurture a positive and safe online community for people to discuss, reflect and learn from each other backed by our shared love of reading and books.
5. We love the environment
We believe strongly in being environmentally friendly. Second-hand books are recycled goods, so when you buy pre-loved, you are preventing land-fill! We keep our packaging as environmentally friendly as possible by using recycled and/or salvaged materials wherever possible, remembering we also want to get your books to you in the condition they leave us.
