"Jerrard Tickell's new novel tells of the disappearance of Richard Thorpe, described by the police and the Press as 'aged twelve but looks older, slim, wiry build, fair hair, grey eyes, scar on left knee...', and of the agonising search by his sister Amaryllis and by Piers Linley, history graduate and Fleet Street reporter. Norman Coburg, jaunty brush salesman, and Gwen Skinner, peevish wife of a passionate and pitiful Somerset landlord, move darkly through the pages of this book as the hunt narrows and is focused on a faraway, wind-blown shore".
