"Showing a photographic subject "...in a favourable light" requires immense skill from a photographer and places great demands on the sources of light such as continuous and repeatable output, variable amounts of flight, constant colour temperature, short flash duration, shaping light with various reflectors and attachments. There is only one single source of light which offers these requirements: electronic flash. As a result, professional lighting techniques are first and foremost the fashioning of light with electronic flash units. To convey this with the Multiblitz system is the declared aim of this book.
Using studio flash units with an instinctive sureness also presupposes some technical and theoretical knowledge of the construction and working method of flash units, of the spectral composition of flash light and filter techniques, of colour temperature and flash exposure metering, of flash synchronization and flash duration, of arranging and shaping light, of modelling lights and mixed sources of lighting. The theoretical and technical facts are described against the background of their practical application. The practice of lighting techniques makes up the largest part of the book and is dealt with in a general section and a section on motifs. The know-how for the most important areas of photography are illustrated with examples from many acclaimed photographers.
This book is not only for photographers who work with the Multiblitz system, but also for those who wish to acquire the know-how for correct lighting arrangements."
