" When she enters nursing, Teri Daley is in her early twenties. Idealistic and spirited, she is seeking an emotional refuge from a failing marriage. What could be more fulfilling than to become a soothing angel of mercy who gives relief from pain?
The reality of the hospital ward proves to be a shattering contrast to the calm world which Teri expected - her images built through myths, magazines and movies. The truth is back-breaking work, heart-wrenching conflict between home and hospital, helplessness in the inevitability of death; but it is also the awesome thrill of reversing a prognosis against all odds, the bittersweet triumph of helping a patient face death with dignity, the satisfaction of easing pain. Teri discovers that for her the rewards are infinite, that she has found the passion of a lifetime.
This is a graphic, compassionate testimony of nursing as it is. A story, sometimes distressing, often uplifting, written by a woman who has spent sixteen years of her life as a nurse. Carol Gino shares her experiences in a way that will spare you nothing: she will shock, inspire and move you and give real insight into the profession that can truly be called a labour of love."
